Casey Dugard's Past Stolen Life and Future Hope

Although this article was based on an event that took place two years ago this is still one of the most incomprehensible stories that I have ever heard. Casey Dugard was 11 years old the day that she was kidnapped. She was zapped with a stun gun, pulled into a van and stripped of the life that she knew. For eighteen years she remained locked in the sound proof studio of Phillip Garrido, where she was tortured and raped continuously on a daily basis; the result being the birth of her two daughters, the oldest being born when she was fourteen. She has told sources that she was to afraid to leave mainly because she wasn’t sure whether or not she could handle the world or protect her daughters from it. 18 years were taken from Casey Dugard’s life yet she still holds onto hope for the life that wasn’t lost.
After reading this article and watching Casey Dugard’s interview, I was almost unable to finish because of how heart breaking this event was to me. The conditions she experienced and described are unimaginable and the fact that more and more stories are arising similar to her own is devastating. This leaves us with the question, what are we doing wrong? Why are these girls not being protected and how can we change it? What do you think of Casey Dugard’s story and what should we learn/ apply from it?

  1. I never heard about this kidnapping which is crazy because it's truly sick what happened. I can't even begin to comprehend how someone would have the audacity to rape an 11 year old and then contine to rape her until the point of her having a baby at 14. This man was obviously sick in the head to have a wife and then a little girl living in his backyard. To learn from all of the kidnappings that have been happening lately, I feel as though that people need to be more aware to their surroundings. Also, I feel that sexual offenders shouldn't be able to live in regular houses and be able to live a regular life. They should continue to see a psychologist to hopefully cure their sick thoughts.

  2. I also have never heard of this. People are truly nuts. I don't understand what makes people think doing stuff like this to anyone is okay, especially children. I agree with bri, sexual offenders definitely should be forced to see psychologists after they are released

  3. I remember hearing this story awhile ago and how shocking it was. The fact that human beings can just be abducted off of the streets without being seen or found for years is crazy. Especiallly with the new stories such as the girls that were recently found in Ohio. With all of the advanced technology and cameras we have today it is flabbergasting to me that we can not identify the kiddnappers right away. Also, the story about the woman who would go into town with the people who kidnapped her and not say a word to anybody. It is insane that we have not come up with any form of prevention for this and that people are still being taken out of their homes and off of the streets.
